Learning English should be more than memorising vocabulary, completing worksheets and learning grammar rules. Fun English learning happens when children enjoy what they are doing, they become more confident, more involved and more willing to use English.

In Israel, children are surrounded by English through music, television, computer games, social media and travel. The challenge is helping them move from simply hearing English to actually speaking, reading and using it with confidence.

After more than 28 years of teaching English, I firmly believe that children learn best when they are actively involved, having fun and feeling successful.

Fun English Learning Through Games in Israel

Games are one of the most effective ways to make English learning fun for kids. They encourage children to repeat vocabulary, practise sentence structures, ask questions and communicate without feeling that they are being tested.

At In English with Debbie, I have developed a wide range of boxed English games, printable games and online activities that make learning enjoyable while reinforcing important language skills.

The games include Bingo, Memory, 4 in a Row, Happy Families and many more. They can be used in private lessons, small groups, classrooms and at home.

The beauty of a good educational game is that children are learning while concentrating on playing, taking turns and enjoying themselves.

Workbooks That Encourage Active Learning

Workbooks are an important part of learning English, but they should offer more than written exercises.

My English workbooks are designed to help children build their skills gradually, combining vocabulary, reading, writing, grammar and opportunities to communicate.

The activities are structured to help students experience success as they progress. Many of my workbook levels also have accompanying games and online activities, giving teachers different ways to practise and reinforce the same language.

This combination of structured learning and playful practice helps children remember what they have learnt.

Speaking English in Real-Life Situations

One of my main goals as an English teacher is to encourage children to actually use the language.

Children may know hundreds of English words but still struggle to hold a simple conversation.

My Real Life English materials and Get Talking activities encourage students to ask questions, respond, share ideas and practise everyday conversations.

Whether they are ordering food, shopping, meeting someone new or asking for help, children begin to understand that English is not just another school subject. It is a language they can use in real life.

Online English Games Make Practice More Enjoyable

Online games are another wonderful way for fun English learning in Israel, both in face-to-face lessons and online teaching.

My website includes interactive activities for different English levels, covering vocabulary, grammar, reading and speaking.

One of the most popular resources on my website is my Corona 2020 page, which includes over 500 online English activities for different ages and levels.

These resources allow teachers and parents to offer extra practice without making children feel that they are doing more schoolwork.

Making English Part of Everyday Life

English learning does not have to stop when the lesson ends.

Parents can encourage their children to use simple English while cooking, shopping, playing games, reading stories or talking about their day. Even five minutes of enjoyable practice can make a difference.

For teachers, combining games, conversation, creative activities and structured learning helps create lessons where children feel comfortable participating and making mistakes.

The more opportunities children have to use English in enjoyable, meaningful situations, the more natural the language becomes.

At In English with Debbie, my aim is to provide teachers and parents in Israel with practical, engaging resources that help children develop their English skills, build confidence and, most importantly, enjoy learning.

Because learning English should be something children look forward to, not something they have to do.
